First harvest of 2010

Posted by RQ on June 23, 2010 at 10:20 PM

The roses are in bloom- we have red, yellow, and lavender.  Wonderful to cut and bring into the house.

The backyard garden is doing quite well now that the weather has warmed.  We had our first harvest of the sparkler radishes- spicy.

The potato box, this year (left) and last year (right).  We decided to just make this a simple planter rather than adding layer upon layer.

Cliffdweller Onions

Another unique effort we have employed this year is what Ihave termed “Cliffdweller Onion” plants. Originally we had thought of making “Onion Condos” meaning that it wouldbe a series of containers spiraling around a central post… but this idea seemed more simple… so, now we have cliffdwellers instead of condominiums.

In an effort to maximize garden capacity and because of my love of potatoes, J has built a potato box for me. We saw the design described on Lifehacker and thought it would be a perfect addition to our vertical food garden.
